If I remember correct, Sec won the Derby in 1:59 2/5, the Preakness in 1:55, and the Belmont in 2:24. 1973 was a LONG time ago, but there was some controversy about the timer for the Preakness and some clockers said they caught Sec in a time faster than Canonero II's 1971 record time of 1:54. Later they played clips of the races of both horses at the same time, and I THINK Secretariat finished "ahead" of Canonero, but they compromised and gave him the time of 1:55. I'm sure someone out there remembers this much better than I do (I was in the 6th grade; didn't have access to much reading material other than local newspapers; didn't get Blood-horse,etc. then...) By the way, "Canny" stands for Canonero II, the first horse I saw win the Derby! :-)
