Yes, we all agree the 70's horses were some of the best, but what always disturbs me is the fact that the "bid" is not mentioned often enough in these discussions! He was certainly more dominant as an older horse than any of the other, winning all 9 of his starts! Last time I checked, Slew, Secretariat, and Affirmed never had an undefeated season. Bid certainly has to be grouped in with the great horses of the 70s. ( even though his 4 year old season was in 1980.) Bid NEVER lost races by double digit lengths like some of these other greats, and it took a great race by Affirmed as a 4yr old to beat him by 3/4 of a length. If the two met at 1 1/4 mile distance, maybe the result would have been different. Bid never lost at that distance and ran 1.57.4 as a 4 year old. Please someone give BID his due!
