Thoroughbred's have always been fragile its not like this just happened in the last 10 years! They are bred to be tall and slender with long legs, Barbaro and any other horse injured in the last 10 years is just like any horse who was injured in the 20's 30's 40's 50's you get the point. Some did say that Mr. Prospector blood make's horses more fragile? I don't see how this is possible is this true has anyone else heard this? I agree with your point on horses continuing to get fragile. However Horses Like Smarty Jones were only retired for stud value, his injury was VERY minor He could of easily been back the next year but he wasn't because of money!! That's pretty much what anyone one see's in horses is Money not the love or the beauty of the game. Afleet Alex had very good strong bone structure but brittle bone as a lose of blood supply was his undoing not fragility. I mean the horse won the Belmont impressively obviously on a hurt leg.
I disagree with the New Plan of the Triple Crown being 9 Weeks apart! If no other horses can accomplish it then so be it! Those 11 horses were great and thats what makes them great! I think the tracks need to be switched to Poly Surface if its safer for horses i'm all for it :)
