Ogden Phipps` Buckpasser, Horse of The Year in 1966 made the biggest news in speed, when on June 25,1966 at Arlington Park, Buckpasser ran the Swiftest mile in history—1:32 3/5. Impressive his stablemate contributed significantly to the feat (Impressive was used as a pace setting rabbit for Buckpasser). Impressive broke in stride and ran the first six furlongs in 1:06 4/5 which was faster than the World Record for six furlongs. That run set it up for Buckpasser who roared off that fantastic pace to beat Cream dela Cream by a length and ¾ at the wire. The previous mile record was held jointly by Swaps, Intentionally, Pia Star and Hedevar.
