I did not say Buckpasser was not as good a either Dr. Fager,or Damascus. His run of 15 wins was brilliant in 1966 and is a longer winning streak than either of the others had. They took turns at the top in those years.
It is a question of what the owners could afford to do. Very very few stars have "personal rabbits" as it costs a fortune to train horses. Neloy had Wheatly Stables wealth to use to find star rabbits and so did Belair Stud who owned Damascus. These horses may well have won without rabbits but if you have good pace setters why not make doubly sure?Each is a star and I do not rate them against each other.
