A quick look at Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro and how he's progressing from lifesaving surgery and a severe case of laminitis at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pa.:
MEDICAL UPDATE: Barbaro continues his slow recovery from a broken leg suffered in the Preakness and the laminitis he developed following surgery. He may have the cast on his broken right hind leg changed again sometime in the next two weeks, depending on how his leg is healing. His left hind hoof, afflicted with laminitis, continues to improve gradually.
QUOTE: "Barbaro's appetite is great, and we take him out each day to hand graze him," said Dean Richardson, chief surgeon at the New Bolton Center. "His vital signs remain normal, and he seems very happy."
