How dull racing has become. Today Belmont Park is running both the Jockey Club Gold Cup and the Vosburgh Hcp. Bernadini will run against two betting interests in the JCGP which has been shortened to 1 ¼ miles. The only 1 ½ mile race left in New York is the Belmont Stakes. Discreet Cat the one horse who can beat Bernidini has chosen not to run against him. Vosburgh S. (G1) is run at 6 fl now and Henny Hughes and Silver Train are entered.
Dr Fager won the Vosburgh twice at 7 fl. It was at Aqueduct on the main track! The Aqueduct winter track was not built until 1976 when Dr Fager was long gone from racing.
