Not comparing to MOW

by Yankee Clipper

I never said Discreet Cat is as good as MOW. I believe MOW the best ever and I met him when I was 6 years old (in 1946). He was very powerful to touch and so adorable too. DC has done something “like MOW” in contesting a track record pace and then winning in track record time. Riddle refused to have MOW give Sir Barton weight in the match race because MOW was 3 and Sir Barton 4. Walter Vosburgh called that “A FARCE” I have no doubt MOW could give the older horses weight and win in a canter, but Riddle would not have it. Few horses in that era at 3 years old could give older horses weight and win. Riddle KNEW that. Certainly the best example of a 3 giving weight to older horses was Sysonby who gave 10 lbs to the older Race King and won a dead heat! It was the first day Belmont Park was ever opened in 1905. Sysonby went undefeated the rest of the year as well. He must have been very special.
