JAMAICA, New York (Ticker) - Aqueduct Racetrack canceled its horse racing card Saturday afternoon when jockeys refused to ride due to strong winds.
Winds gusts from the remnants of Hurricane Noel were measured up to 30 miles per hour, prompting the decision by jockeys not to ride.
New York Racing Associated management had already shortened the post times between races so the final race would go off at 4:19 p.m. instead of the originally scheduled time of 4:50 p.m.
Saturday's featured race, the 51st running of the $150,000 Long Island Handicap, has been rescheduled for November 11.
