Monarchos almost clipped Secretariat's Derby record. Now IF Monarchos wins the Triple Crown, a lot of Secretariat fans are gonna know what we Man o' War fans feel when the legend of Secretariat gets pushed aside for Monarchos MANIA!
EVERYONE looks for a hero they can see in the here and now! It takes a special person not to jump onto the latest bandwagon and be true to the opinions they hold about their hero of old.
I'll get out the racing charts in the next couple of days and start posting some FACTS about Man o' War that Secretariat was never able to match.
There are differences between Secretariat and Man o' War - most notably the huge gap in time and racing technology.
But there were many similarities that fans of both horses should embrace....
They were born one day apart on the calendar year.
They were both big, red, bounding horses.
They both dominated their class.
They both set records.
They both inspired legions of fans.
Who knows - if there is some sort of horsey re-incarnation - perhaps????
They both saved the sport when it was down.
