| Well the truth is the Academy rarely gives the award to the best film or actor etc. it is really about which nominee has paid their dues, or what will be more dramatic for example there was alot of news about how african-americans had been nominated and how it would be nice to see them win and break the color barrier and surprisingly they won well in my opinion neither Halle Berry nor Denzel Washington deserved the oscar. Denzel deserved it for other films possible and Halle Berry just didn't deserve it. Will Smith was more deserving than Washington but was not chosen because Ali was his first Oscar worthy role.
Now on to the actually subject. Amelie did not win because the Academy would not allow a film that is light hearted win. Amelie however was a perfect display of human nature. I wouldn't have even nominated any other films if it were up to me I would have just given the award to Amelie and would have seriuosly considered it for Best Picture, however Ron Howard it seems has paid his dues.
It really all boils down to this: The Academy Awards are not an award program for the entertainment industry but an extension of it and it will always be that while it is aired on TV. |
