The motor and engine bay are done!  next month it's off to the body shop for the rest of the car.  then engine bay is a metallic smoke/silver that really sparkles when the sunlight hits it.

The motor dyno'd at 475 HP & 430 lbs torque with a Holley 850 DP (factory settings).  Was running WAY to rich and fouled the plugs so bad it wouldn't start after a couple of hours.  I replaced the 850 DP with a Barry Grant 750 Mighty Demon and 1" spacer.  The exhaust & plugs cleared up nicely.  Anyone like to guess what this change has done to the HP & torque numbers?

Lookin' Good!

That's a righteous engine bay, Don! I'm not sure what different the carb will make, but if you were overcarbed before, you might get some more ponies out of the Demon. I also wonder if a 2" spacer would do anything for you, although I understand that would cause a hood clearance issue for you.

Sorry.... You're Too Late

Just sold it on ebay for $280.  The carb had only been used for about eight hours of which two were on a dyno.  It included Ford AT kickdown,  a new set of #76 jets, and a new gasket set.  The thing looks brand new.

Looks good!! Question on demon carb.

October 25 2004, 7:46 PM

You said you replaced the 850dbl with the 750 demon. I heard that the Demon carbs are wet flowed while the Holleys are dry flowed. The difference is supposed to be 100 cfm I heard. So in a way you replaced it with a 850 carb again. I should post this in the forum and see what others have to say about the way the carbs are flowed. Buy the way how bad did the demon spank the holley? I would guess 10 - 15 more horse and 5-10 more torque?

Don't Know For Sure

October 26 2004, 12:03 PM

I'm looking for three areas of HP/torque gain.  1)  The Deamon is a better carb, so it should perform better.  2) The 850 DP was so rich I had to be looing power.  The Demon has smaller primary jets.  3) Also added a 1" spacer.

I know the dyno numbers with the 850 DP, but I don't know the numbers with the Demon.  I'm hoping for an overall gain in excess of 20 HP.  But who knows!
