BURBANK, Calif. (AP) - A woman was struck and killed by a pickup outside a radio station where a crowd had gathered to see singer Justin Timberlake, police said Tuesday. The truck driver was arrested for investigation of murder and drunken driving.

Anne White, 21, of Burbank, was standing on the sidewalk outside the studios of KIIS-FM Monday night when a pickup traveling in reverse struck her, Lt. Tim Stehr said Tuesday.

The woman was pinned under the truck and dragged for about a block, Stehr said. She then fell to the street, and the motorist drove off.

The woman was pronounced dead at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, Stehr said.

Cameron Duty, 23, of Sylmar was arrested and booked for investigation of murder, hit and run and driving under the influence, he said.

Bail was set at $1 million. Arraignment was scheduled Wednesday.

A call seeking comment from KIIS-FM was not immediately returned.

In a statement, Timberlake said he was "horrified to learn of the senseless death."

"My family and I wish to express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim. Our thoughts and prayers are with you," said the statement.

The radio station was hosting a special late-night interview with Timberlake, a member of the pop group 'N Sync, who was promoting his upcoming solo album.

Both the driver and the woman apparently were in a crowd of about two dozen people gathered outside the station, Stehr said.

The driver had been arguing with some people but they were in front of the pickup, Stehr said.

"It doesn't appear at that this point that he intended to go after the victim and run her down. It didn't appear that he knew her," the lieutenant said.

The driver backed up 40 or 50 feet with the woman pinned under the truck and struck another vehicle before driving off, Stehr said.

An officer patrolling a block away noticed the truck's damage and stopped it.
