Kenny Wayne Shepherd is planning to spend some time on the road early in the 2005. He'll be out in support of his latest album, "The Place You're In" (Warner/Reprise), beginning with a free Jan. 8 concert at Colorado's Beaver Creek Resort.
The show comes as part of Beaver Creek's Talons Fest, a new mountain challenge taking place Jan. 5-9 at the resort. Along with the opportunity to conquer 13 of the mountain's most challenging runs, top skiers and snowboarders will be on hand to offer tips. Produced by House of Blues, Shepherd's concert will be one of the final highlights of the event.
The day before that show, Shepherd will perform on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and follow it with a Jan. 10 appearance on the syndicated radio show "Rockline."
Shepherd has been out supporting "The Place You're In" since mid-October, marking the first time he has taken on lead vocal duties along with his renowned guitar work. As he admitted to Billboard just before his fall touring stint kicked off, he considered singing to "be a little nerve-wracking for me. But God is not going to throw anything at me I can't handle. I won't make an ass of myself."
As for why it took him a decade of performing and recording professionally before he decided to sing, the 27-year-old artist said, "The voice coming out of me at 17 years old wasn't the voice I was interested in having. I just didn't sound old enough. I knew I'd eventually step up to the plate."
Nonetheless, Shepherd is joined on the road by longtime singer Noah Hunt, as well as keyboardist Jimmy Wallace, bassist Michael Devin, guitarist Shaun Hague and drummer Bogie Bowles.
Released in October, "The Place You're In" debuted at No. 101 on The Billboard 200.
