Funeral Set for Boxer Vernon Forrest
Forrest Was Shot During A Robbery
ATLANTA -- A funeral service is set for Monday for former boxing champion Vernon Forrest, who was killed in an attempted robbery over the weekend.
Forrest's manager Charles Watson says the service will take place at 1 p.m. at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, just east of Atlanta. The funeral will be open to the public.
Watson says some of Forrest's closest friends, including Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley and gospel singer Frankie Beverly, are expected to attend.
The 38-year-old Forrest was found shot to death Saturday night. Police say he exchanged gunfire with at least two robbery suspects before being shot multiple times in the back.
Forrest was a two-division champion, who
gained notoriety when he became the first boxer to defeat Mosley. |
