I think that the joke is on the rankings not that the rankings on this site are a joke. The nature of rankings leaves a quandry for the rankers when upset such as those happen.
I dare you to take the rankings from IHSFW.com & compare them with any other site, news paper or the AP over since IHSFW.com started in 2000. I think you'll see our preseason ranking almost always hold up by year end.
Last years preseason had 7 of the 8 teams that made the state finals in the Big 30. We didn't have Lockport.
Will Hubbard make it to the finals. Maybe not, but I wouldn't say any of the top 10 are a lock. That's what makes HS football so great. It's not the NFL.
Also, teams are ranked based partly on their talent & coaches and the other half is based on their past & present preformance.
Rice's 5-0 record is a great turn around from the 2-7 of 2001, but one upset does not a champion make. And one point victories are not slaughters. When Rice takes down Mt Carmel & St. Rita we'll talk about a top 10 ranking.
