Jon,
I am sorry and I believe completely in what you say because I too have lost a couple of friends and family to drunk driving accidents. It is totally cool that you are into stopping this terrible problem and I agree with your position and beliefs. That is why I am happy the way my alma mater's principal handles all sport activities at Mt Carmel.
The principal comes to all events an hour and a half early and watches the entrance to the stadium or court. He watches all tailgaters becuase there is an area at Gately where tailgating is only allowed ( in the front)and if there is any drinking after he gets there, you are not allowed in. Also there are many police around the park and if you are caught drinking you are reprimanded or ticketed! I appreciate Fr Markelz's stance on this issue and if he ever needs me I am there to help. However you cannot watch everyone all the time and to believe you can do this is wrong.
I think Br Rice should step up its stance on this issue and if not they should be penalized. I agree that there is NO ROOM for alcohol inb high school sports. Theere is plenty of time in one's life to drink, so for that 2 1/2 hours....keep sober, not just for your safety but the safety of children.
Everyone I am sure has over done it once and has made a mistake and I hope people realize the severity of this. I hope things are learned and taken carew of a little better for everyone's happiness!!
Remeber though both of you, getting personal gets really boring because fighting is exhausting after a while but cooperating and intelligent discussion is fun.....GOD I KNOW, I have been attacked here at this site more than anyone!!!
God Bless YOU and Good luck JON!
