I am sure Carmel has had race issues and in the 60's they were very bad. However, do not make a negative statement about a school unless it has been publicized. Otherwise it is just hearsay and not valid. I am not here to cause an argument but why would someone make a comment like that unless they were there. The only reason to do so is to put down another school when there is no cause. Just because you were a sub does not mean you have seen racial disturbances that were far worse than were at that basketball game. If they were far worse than they would have been in the paper. So all I ask is when there is a subject at the helm, do not make a comment about another school to take the heat off of them. I have a lot of respect for teachers and you are one, so I respect you, but I do not think that Carmel should be discussed about this because there are not any documented and publicized cases of this sort of harassment there and if there were I would be angry as hell about it and would not tolerate it. I just believe for someone to make a comment like that, there should be proof and it should be documented, not just hearsay because that could injure a school's reputation and it is not fair. In no way was I sayimg Carmel is better than Rice at its effort in maintaining order at school functions, I was just offering up an opinion of what the principal does to combat problems. Race had no discussion in my message and I do not think MC should have been brought into it because as far as I know for the last 15 years there has been no such problem. I know this because I am an active alum and all my brothers have been attending the school along with my uncles since 1965. There has been a family member of mine at Mount Carmel for the last 36 years. I just do not like unfounded comments but if it is a truth that has happened then note it so at l;east people can debate it, rather than making a possible unfounded rumor. Once again NO DISRESPECT, because teachers deserve the world as far as I am concerned. I had a few that saved my life from hell, so I appreciate them!!!
