North of Kelly's 4/27

My girlfriend and I landed 6 out of 8 walleye between 7 am and 10 am. All fish were 28 to 30 inches, spawned out, 9-10 lbs. We kept 2 for a fish fry and released the rest for another day. Every fish came on deep diving Reef Runners, 80' back off boards. Blue and chrome was the ticket. Water was clear and flat. We had a few marks on sonar, but not what one would expect. Fish were high, so evidently not showing up on sonar, as they moved away from the boat. What a great day!!

Kelley's Fish

You are correct the fish were large up there this past week. However, that school of fish moved rapidly to the East and by the middle of the week were East of Kelley's a good ways. Best baits then were ReefRunners or Husky Jerks in Tenn. Shad or Blue Silver.

Fishing continued good near Middle Is. between Middle and Ballast for decent sized fish. The bite went from cranks to meat during the week with most fish coming on spinners and bouncer or snap weights. Best blade colors were gold, silver or copper #5's.

The fish ran smaller during the week in the pack of boats up there but there were better fish away from the crowd and further South.

Good luck to all. The water clarity up there was great.

I knew I should have headed East!!

We searched all day Saturday and Sunday for those fish. The pack out west of Middle Island fooled me. The farthest east I searched was just east of Kelly's Shoal. We covered every inch of water between Kelly's, Middle and the Bass Islands with minimal marks. I just have a hard time fishing if I'm not marking. It makes sense that those big females would shift to the east. It should start picking up north of Vermilion and Lorain. Is this a pattern that occurs annually?

every year

Yes it is a pattern that does happen every year, a lot depends on the bait, how fast the water temps rise, and the winds. if the water stays at the lower temps the fish go east at a slower pace. either way they will be in the area out from huron to lorain in the very near future for a couple of months now. there are a few more being taken each day(when we can get on the water).the perch bite is still good, the smallmouth bass fishing is great, and the eyes are , well they are acting just like eyes, here but just getting going. good luck and good fishin.
P.S. there has been some steelie action going too.
Den
