Here's our report from this weekend:
Sat March 27 - boxed 10 nice eyes from 4 to 10+ pounds. Four were over 8#. We found clean water and fish about 2 miles South of round reef. 20 feet of water for depth. We trolled big mast & ski boards - speeds between 1.6 and 1.8 mph. Surface temps were 38.4 up to 39 degrees on the FishHawk.
Earlier in the day Husky Jerks were working, then late morning to early afternoon the ReefRunner Ripsticks worked better.
Sunday we fished the same area. Only boxed 2. Water was dirtier but still decent enough to fish. Fish were still there. Both days we had at least 5 times that a fish was definitely on - rod bent over good and by the time we popped it from the release the fish was gone - just like what is called "a pullback" when running little boards.
All of our fish except one over both days were in the top 10 feet of the water column.
Good job Steve!!Went perchin" with two friends Sunday and the bite was on in 34FOW just west of the Vermilion breakwall.Lots of steady action and plenty of 11+" fish. Mike
Mike,
I've never gone perch fishing in the spring - I may have to give that a try as they are just too good to eat to not have them around till Sept.
Should have mentioned I had 6 guys total on Sat and 5 of us on Sun. We were running between 8-10 lines so it isn't like things were "fast and furious" on Sat but it was nice to catch some good fish.
Nice way to start the season, Steve! I did't see your post on GLA until today, thanks for the invite, looks like you had some fun. I'll be out next weekend, I believe Scott from Scoutin Sam and his Dad are going to be with me. I'll be up Friday to organize the boat, if your in the area, I'll buy you a drink at Nate's friday evening. I hope the weather holds.
