Ruthless Clean Sweep

by Dawn (no login)

So, I'm attempting to get the house ready to sell. Don't know when within the year I'll have to put the house on the market, but figure if I start getting it ready now it might be ready by the time the sign is in the yard.

I've been observing online tours of homes for sale and see that the look is one of Spartan elegance. Freshly painted walls with nary a nick-knack in sight. No toys. No newspapers on the coffee table. You get the idea.

I've never thought of myself as a clutter-bug, but compared to the photos in these online tours of homes, my house looks a bit too lived in. I must get rid of stuff and don't have the time or emotional energy for yard sales, so I suppose what I'm going to do is just give things away.

Quinn and I went through his room and he gave some things away, but I know I must be more ruthless. He was just given loads of toys by friends in TN and I must make space for these by getting rid of the less desirable things in his room. Also, my DH has a real paper problem: he can't seem to throw anything made of paper away. Must work on this. And I must finish remodeling the closets, since I hear that closets can sell a house.

I just spent a few hours looking at the Clean Sweep website for inspiration. Is there anywhere else online (or any books you'd recommend) that could give me some tips on being a ruthless tosser of stuff? If you have any ideas or inspiring stories of your own I'd appreciate hearing them.

Thanks!
