The owners must come up with $2000 for the design team to use on making the house look sellable. You're right, spartan is better, it helps others visualize their stuff in your space so they soom want to make your space, their space.
If you have doubts about ridding yourself of some precious possession, put it in a box and eventually, take all the boxes to a storage locker. You might have to put some extraneous furniture in storage, too.
Mike and I try to eliminate stuff every once in a while. It's amazing just how much one accumulates over time.
