Need help again with H7 retro in 98 Accord

Hey guys. I finally installed my aftermarket headlights with the retrofited Hella H7 in my Accord but I still have problems with the shield on the left side light(slight flare starting from the z pattern) and moisture in the right side light when it rains. I noticed some new info in the FAQ's projector section in regards to where your hotspot should be in reference to your shield. Couldn't I just look at the bulb (with the light off of course..lol) with the curved lens removed and reference the pics on the page..?? I still have those slightly dark areas around the 10 and 2 o clock position from each light but my foreground lighting is amazing compared to stock. I will get some pics up tomorrow night when i'm off from work...

BTW...I think for my next project i'll just buy some Audi D2S projectors. It seems the OEM projector route takes alot of the guess work out of it...
Thanxs....

fine tuning of bulb position on any projector must be done with curved lens mounted and around 15ft away from wall.
No doubt that it easier to retro a H9 Hella 90mm compared to an H7 version. And using a OEM HID projector unit is even simpler.

You are so right herman. I should of got some OEM proj. or some H9 modules.Well i started from stratch again and spent 12+ hours on them. I have the pics of the work for both night and day. Its a Fugi finepix 1.3 mp and most pics got over-exposed. Oh well. I was reading some new info on the site on proj and positioning the hot spot correctly. Helped alot today and yes i had my sunglasses to see what you where talking about. Stand by for the pics....

Thanxs Mario....I will take some pics this weekend of them. Im having some moisture build up in the right side headlight which is driving me nuts. I have the back end where the rubber seal would be for changing the bulbs off because it doesn't fit with the H7 module installed. Im going to modify it and use some high temp liquid sealant to close it off and a heat gun to remove the moisture.

AccordEx,
you might benfit from borrowing a higher quality camera. The Fuji 1.2Megapixel camera are not really capable of taking nitetime images, besides on the wall shots.

Pics from AccordEX

Here are the pics that AccordEX sent to me, they needed to be converted to JPG and not use spaces in their names, anyway his questions are:

"I just took some pics this weekend of my HIDs in my 98 Accord. As you will see my bulb might still be out of focus and my z pattern still needs work. What should my next step be in improving my install..?? Should i switch to standard D2S bulbs..?? Thanks for any help....I'll list what equipment i have installed below..

D2R bulbs with the paint scrapped off.
Matsu****a ballast
Hella H7 modules
98 Accord G2 twin projector headlights

Thanks again....AccordEX"

Re: Pics from AccordEX

i just finished re-doing my retrofit on my 98 accord with a set of X5 projectors and G2 projector housings. All I can say is it's amazing. X5 projectors are initially way too big for the G2 housing, but I did a lot of trimming and cutting, it actually fit perfect now. From the outside it looks great, too. I would seriously say the retrofit is %95 up to OEM standard. I would highly recommend the G2 housing with maybe smaller OE projectors, like A6s...
I had the same problems with the Hella 90mm, I just think it's too much of a pain to adjust the depth of the D2 bulbs inside the 90mm. When there are OE projectors available, all you need is a twist of the D2S bulb holders and you have the best focal point, why bother with other projectors? But that's just me. However, 2 OE projector with D2Ss is less than $200 on eBay (Paid 165 shipped for mine), I don't think the Hella 90mm are too much cheaper than that. BTW, OE 4100K bulbs are great too, not a lot of color choices but bright, reliable, and very bright.

Hey Tom....I would agree too. Knowing what I know now I would have used A4 projectors in the G2 headlights. I have been working on these things on and off for weeks now. My friend wants to do a retro on a 95 Millenia. Im will surely go with some A4 projectors in that....!! If you have pics I would love to see them. Send them to prophet0@optonline.net

Yeah, A4s should be fine. Just so you know, no matter which OE projectors you go with, they will always be longer than the P.O.S. H3 projectors. So be ready to make some room in the back and seal it up good. in my case, I even had to relocate the driver side windshield washer fuild pipe to make room. I have AEM CAI on the passenger side, so there is a lot of room there. After you are done, the beam almost look yellow with OE D2S from inside of the car, but once you get used to it, it's actually a bright white. I don't know about A4s, but with my X5/E39 projectors, the beam is capable of taking up 5 lanes on a dark interstate highway (my own lane and 2 lanes to the left and right). Simply amazing.

Tom:

I just helped AccordEX to post his pics, they were BMP (too big), and the name's files had spaces, try to convert them in to JPG and post them again. If you can't, send them to me (mnajera@avantel.net).

I think it's better to share your pics so more people can give you their comments.

Best

Mario

Hey Tom....I had the same problem with the windshield wiper fluid pipe too. I still have a stock intake but there is still room. I would say my lights would take up about 3 lanes but most light is in my lane slightly to the right.

PICs

MARIO,

my pics are JPG pics, but I just can't get them to upload to the forum for some reason. This happens with both my computer at home and work, maybe I'm just dumb. I'll email them to you though, maybe you can help me post them on the forum, (maybe in a seperate discussion, i't takes a while to load this discussion already with some dial-up modern).

ACCORDEX,

The washer fluid pipe is a biatch, I almost want to throw the whole thing away. I basically just tab in another hole in there and cut the original pipe and seal the hole.
