Ok, this is probably a no brainer for some of you but...........

I rented a car this weekend and they gave me an '03 Nissan Maxima, this was my first time riding in a car with factory HID, so I seized the opportunity to compare it to my vehicle....so see if you can guess which one is the Maxima....

Note: The lighting is a little decieving because one vehicle is angled up a little due to uneven pavement. Both are using 4100 Philips D2R.

Well the Nissan is better for beam, both my Chevy and the Nissan's beam reach the same distance....but the Nissan's beam is more solid on the ground...mine has some uneven spots due to it being in a halogen housing.

The Maxima has some great cutoff as well.....we were driving through the back woods of Louisiana, so I definantly put it through the test. I'm thinking they cutoff by making the bottom part of the reflector square instead of curved. Here's a pic:

The one on the left is what most reflectors look like from the side, the one on the right is what the Maxima's looks like.

Now I'm just guessing that's for cutoff, if anyone has noticed this and knows why it's like that, please let me know.

not just for cut-off

the lack of a lower 1/3 reflector really helps in reducing glare. this is the part of the reflector that poses the most problem for halogen->hid retrofitting. installing an underbelly shield would definitely even the playing field. most OEM HID reflectors presents w/ the Maxima style. better cut-off and reduction of glare upward.
