Sylvania Xenarc mods

Hello-

Perhaps someone knows how the Sylvania D1S comes apart....

I have the Sylvania D1S bulb w/ integrated ignitor. Unfortunately, the most common, least expensive and most popular bulb appears to be the Phillips D2S. Anybody know how a Phillips D2S might be retrofitted into a Sylvania ignitor? The Sylvania part <appears> to be injection molded and so doesn't easily lend itself to modification. I guess I could hack a high tension lead between the Sylvania lamp base (ignitor side) and a Phillips bulb but I was looking for something a bit less crude.

Thanks,
Brian

I'm using a set of 1010 bulbs / ballasts in a pair of Hella 90 mm's. They work well enough but I want to try a Phillips 4100K bulb using the same ballast and ignitor. It would be nice to mount the bulb directly into the ignitor but there are alternatives. That's why we have epoxy, RTV silicone, electrical tape, bailing wire, gum and spit I guess

I thought the bulb and ignitor were one piece. If the bulb whent you would have to buy the unit.
Right now mine are in a set of Hella micro De driving lights... not bad, but not great.

Why not just sell your electronics on eBay, and buy a set of Hella (or other) brand ballasts? I just picked up a set of new Hella ballasts off eBay for $200 about 2 days ago ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=36476&item=2420079161 ). I think that would be the most cost effective method to getting your D2 type bulb that you want. If it's the separate ignitors you like, they got Bosch ballasts with separate ignitors (there are other brands too). But I ALWAYS see ballasts for sale on eBay.
