What is the difference between these two bulbs?

On my Altima it has the cornering light listed as 3157 and the turn signal listed as 3457. They are both dual filament and they look like they fit the same socket...so whats the difference??

Listed in order are amperage ratings, candlepower, then lifetime in hours. The larger #s are for the brighter filament, smaller for the dimmer.

3157:
2.1/0.59
32/3 (amber 24/2.2
1200/5000

3457:
2.23/0.59
40/3 (amber 30/2.2)
400/5,000

Also the 3457 is a "high-heat Amodel base for constant-on apps"

So the 3457 is a little brighter, uses more amperage, and has a shorter life.

Thanks!

So they are both interchangable right? I could use 3157 in a 3457 socket?

Yup,if the sockets are the same you should be able to swap them.

I never seen the 3457 in any stores. I have spotted the 3357 which has wattage between the two at Ford, but thats about it. Would be interesting to hear what u find?

Jeep also has weird bulbs. The 93-98 Grand Cherokees have some dealer-only bulb in the front signals. It looks just like an 1156 but uses .9 amperes more current...that very small resistance change causes the signals to flash double-speed. And the bulbs are no longer in production.

The reason I had asked about the bulbs is:

My new Altima has 9007, so any retrofit I do will require building a separate high beam...I could go bixenon, but I'd rather stick with separate. Anyway, the headlamp has the turn signal inside the headlamp close to the grill...so I was going to replace those with high intensity yellow bulbs and wire them as my high beam, but they only have them online in 3157.

The Altima also has this clear cornering light (3157)that has steady current when the turn signal is on, so I was going to replace that with an amber bulb and convert that to a turn signal.

When I had my Maxima, I did something similar, I replaced my front turn signals with high intensity yellow bulbs and wired them as my high beams, and they worked pretty good to light up the trees and signs ahead.
