Here is the picture I took of an airplane tug in Frankfurt International. It was raining and gloomy, but those lights were definitely HID. Sorry too far and no halogen comparison beside, the plane was moving quite fast too.

wow... i've been at frankfurt a few times and never noticed that! gotta keep my eyes out for those from now on.

Those Germans sure love their HIDs!!!

At least until Lumileds can double or triple the effieciency of their LEDs. But that will be a couple of years.

I wonder why the tugs have HIDs?!?!

Maybe they need the light when towing the jets out on the runway in bad weather.
