What is all the differneces between the two projectors?? Size wise and beam pattern and which you would think would give a better light output and beam pattern, color shift, cutoff and so on???
thanks for all suggestions and answers in advance!!!
My only beef with the DOT A4/S4 projector was that the reflector was purposely designed to limit foreground lighting. ECE A4/S4 does not lack foreground lighting like its DOT cousin so its output should be about the same as the ECE A6. Maybe a slight advantage in output for the A6 because it's a larger unit. As for cutoff, you can always bend the shield to get more color.
Who knows why? I had a pair of the DOT A4 projectors before, and they don't got no foreground. I think it just tried to go with the DOT theme that you want to keep your eyes focused out further in front down the road. But my A6 DOT units have really bright foreground. I never could figure out why? I preferred the A6 ones in DOT. I've never seen ECE beam pattern between the A4 and A6 units before, but people always said in various forums that the A4 ECE ones were really good compared against the A4 DOT ones. But I have no idea how they compare to the A6 ECE ones. In my opinion, you should always use the biggest sized projector that will physically fit into your car since they have brighter beams, wider spread etc. I really like the beam pattern of my A6 DOT units though. I've also heard that the ECE A6 units have more of a rainbow of colors at cutoff, rather than the DOT A6's blueish fading to purple cutoff. I think I would prefer the DOT A6 units for this over ECE but also because the ECE has a much sharper cutoff line and gives more of the illusion of the 'flashing' effect going over bumps in the road (from the oncoming cars' perspective). My DOT units are a bit fuzzier at cutoff (even though they are still pretty sharp), I don't think I would want it any sharper than they are now. By the way, A4 projectors were made by Valeo, and A6 ones by Hella (in case you didn't already know this)
I have retrofitted both projectors. The A6 DOT and A6 ECE have the same brightness and overall output. THey both have wide and far range. THe DOT cutoff is not as sharp which is sort of a fuzzy wanna be Z line which at the center in between horizontall cutoff, you will see an intense light output concentration. On the other hand, the ECE has a super clean, straight, sharp cutoff line which had a deep blue and medium violet color band. The DOT has no blue but a very small amount of light pinkish/violet at the cutoff. Overall, from a scale of 0-10 for flickering w/ S2000 having 7, the A6 DOT has a flickering scale of 4 while the A6 ECE has a flickering scale of 9.5. I have the ECE A6 and don't even look at my S2000 retrofit. Still I pick A6 ECE over s2000 for it covers much wider area. Oh yeah, when shining the A6 DOT and A6 ECE on the wall, the DOT has a pattern which there is a lot of light concentrating into one small spot. I think what that means is that you can see further or have more ground light output on the floor whereas the A6 ECE is simply straight w/ no concentrated light spot at the cutoff. I think this means that the ECE has more wide surface area range whereas the DOT A6 has further front light source.
I don't know what the hell year my A6 DOT or ECE's are. I forgot to check out the year when I got them. Anyways I'm very satisfied w/ them and don't think I'm gonna change it anytime soon. I heard that the auto industry is coming out w/ LED headlights which will be compared w/ Xenon HID but uses less wattage and is more noticeable in daytime which oncoming drivers can see about a mile away. I think my DOT are 99 and my ECE's are 2002
