I've been reading some article on Stage 3 HID that uses 50wt ballast. I just wanna know, it any has them and how good they are. It was stated to give out 5300lumens from a 4300k philips bulb. http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext49.shtml
Do a search here on this forum and also on the hidforum.com as well, as there were a few really thorough discussions and even a trial of one talked about. Aeurswald makes the dual mode ballast/ignitor system that supports 50w function. Long term bulb reliability is still an unknown factor with this system as of now, and nobody truly knows how these bring the bulbs down in the end, so it IS possible that they go kaboom inside your light fixture, costing more damage than just your bulb. You wanna be another ginnea pig to try this system out? I got the link in my Favorites folder of the website where you can buy these. They cost like $150 each side for ballast/ ignitor set ($300 total)
I was one of those that got involved in the negative side of the discussion in that thread. It should also be noted that philips has not thus far put out a 50watt bulb to go with that supplied power. Like Josch says yes it will bright up, but what more do you want than 35 watt output that's just overkill. The people at autolamps (sort of experts in this matter I would say) do not, as far as I know, advocate the use of this ballast. Personally I'll say it again, I will not try something that is not backed up by the big companies.
