Aftermarket projectors retrofited with HIDs

Is it true that aftermarket projectors such as halo for the honda civic will melt if you put HIDs inside of them? I was planning to use the high beam projector side and inserting an oem HID reflector in combination with the D2R bulbs to replicate a factory set up; is this approach correct? any insight will be appreciated. Thanks.

that's not such a good idea....

having worked with a lot of aftermarket honda headlights... what you're proposing is kinda.... borderline.... next to impossible. the space in the high beam cavity is even less then the low beam cavity. hid reflector/d2r is about 2-3 times wider then hid projector/d2s. in those housings, going deeper is doable but going wider is next to impossible. so what you're basically gonna be doing is trying to fit a watermelon through something the size of a grapefruit (and the hole doesn't expand).

as for the melting issue, if that was the case... mine would have melted LONG ago. i've had mine since January '01. HID outputs less heat then their halogen counterpart.
