What do you mean by a thick color band? Like a deeper color?
So.......what do you think as far as light escaping on these? There never was a shroud on it to begin with...just that cosmetic lense. Also I noticed that the reflector has a certain angle to it...maybe this is to keep access light from coming out??

it's got a thicker band of color.... almost twice as thick as most of the other projectors i've seen. same colors(blue/purple) but just a thicker band. light escaping on those is pretty bad. i have a friend that used those projectors without a cover... pretty glarey, from certain angles...
that "cosmetic lense" is also a diffuser...
you can make something like that to soften any stray light or you could make one that totally blocks it. but i wouldn't recommend going without one. it's not a pretty sight.
hey how are you guys? Well i have a set of the E39 projectors in a honda accord OEM headlamp. At first all i did was put the bare projector in and make a wall around with the projector coming through the center. This sucked cuz light still strayed around the projector wall thus projecting a ring. So what i did was use the chrome housing of the BMW and cut around it so not only did i have a chrome cosmetic trim but also a cover so stray light wouldn't escape. Pliep helped me alot. But most of these guys pretty much know what they're talking bout. Thanks for the help guys.
The front lense frame was just clipped to the back part of the housing. All I had to do was release about 8 clips...the ones at the top were melted with heat to secure it, but they popped off easily as well.
Nothing broke, maybe one or two clips cracked out of 10 or 16....but everything can be put back together.

Yeah, there is a Camry Generation 4, and there is a 4.5. They both have the same body style, but the 4.5 has diamond-clear taillamps and diamond-clear headlamps with separate high and low beams. Gen. 4 is from 97-99, Gen. 4.5 is 00-01.
Well it's best to use clear headlamps with projectors, at least thats my understanding. Your lense is textured which may interfere with the beam. I'll present this question to the forum and see what the consensus is on that.
Dang, all these people in Houston doing retro's now. I'm in Houston too. I did a A6 conversion in to a set of APC (crap) headlamps on my civic. I'm also the source for some of the pics they use here. visit me at http://texas.hybridgarage.com
