How Do I Test MY HID Sytem on The Bench??

Hello all,

I just received my HID assemblies for my E36 BMW conversion.

Question is, how do I test these on on the bench to insure they work?

Do I just take a battery / portable battery booster and connect it up to the yellow and brown wires of the ballasts?

Anyone know what the spade connector coming from the ballast is for? It looks like it may plug into a tab on the Projector housing as a ground.

Any pointers during this trial to look out for to insure I don't zap myself or the HID system?

Sorry if these are total newb questions, but I just don't want to do anything stupid :o

The projectors are from a BMW E65 7- series, the Ballast and Bulbs are brand new.

Thanks

I have those same projectors.

The spade connector connects to a tab on the projector. Just look around the motor and it should be there.

Yellow is positive, brown is negative.

A battery, and battery charger will do for testing them on the bench.

A 9V battery can test the motor just fine as well.

I seen that tab on the projector, however some times things that seem obvious are the exact opposite...

Thanks!

What did you do/use to seal the connector plug at the ballast end?

It looks like it had a some type of boot for that assembly.

Does the ballast need to be enclosed in a box as well or are they fine as they are? By the looks of them they look sealed, with exception to the connector part.

silicone

i used silicone to seal all the joints on my ballast just to be safe, and they arent in a box either, just mounted to the inside of the engine compartment im pretty sure you can use silicone to seal up the plug, but it will be somewhat permanently stuck to the ballast. thats what i did and mine work perfectly

Please do not forget to wear Safety glasses. The internal pressure of a hot lamp is 120 bar and bench testing you have nothing to save you eyes if the lamps explodes

Thanks for everyone's help regarding this. I was able to successfully bench test and mount the the Bi-Xenons in to my car.

I just eneded up electrical taping the point where the connector enters the ballast. It should provide an effective water barrier.
