My next project: 2004 Saturn Vue...tough one, need HELP! *big picture, 56k beware*

Well, my Chevy Venture is going bye bye, to be replaced by a Saturn Vue in about a month. These headlamps are very small. They have little depth to them, plus there is no space behind the lamps at all. I may be buying a second set of lamps to work with very soon.

Any suggestions? I may only be dealing with 5 inches of depth TOTAL. I don't want to just settle for rebasing my D2R, so I'm seeking some creative input here.

Here's a BIG picture of a Saturn VUE:

Hey DJ... u are going through cars like most people go through underwear!

Theoretically, there are many small units you can use. Have u measured hight? A quick look at FAQ and u should find ECE Audi A4, ECE Golf IV, or Hella 90mm.

LOL, well this is a company car.....I only have 2 cars. Since I joined this forum, I've had:

Company: '02 Chevy Venture, '04 Saturn Vue coming soon

Personal: '92 Taurus (gone), Was very close to getting an '01 Altima, but went with '01 Camry.

As far as projectors go, I am getting something from http://www.hidtech.com because of the prices, so will need to find something on there that would fit.

i'd say same thing, push the 90mm right up to the stock lens, it'd probably fit nicely.

i have about 4 inches of space behind my headlamps so mines are gonna go have to go in deep too.

they don't mind you messing with company car? my last company didn't like that sort of thing.

"i'd say same thing, push the 90mm right up to the stock lens, it'd probably fit nicely."

Perhaps even removing the clear lens off of the Hella. Would gain another fraction of an inch if space is that critical. If you were careful you could retain the factory ring that comes with the hella, or make something out of stainless that curves back (instead of forward, like on the Hella) to gain a little more room.

they are pretty small or the VW bugs are small from what i hear

Just do it

Madstyle and I own Stratus, very narrow headlamps.
I've eliminated the OEM reflector to be able to fit in there the projectors.

Good luck!

I plan on using a second set of headlamps to work with, in case I need to take them out. But generally, no, they don't care, Co-workers have put rims, custom stereo systems, you name it on their comp. cars....as long as it is in the same condition when we return it after the 3 year lease term.

The vehicle stays at home with me anyway....so it's not like anybody is inspecting it everyday. I have a reputation amoungst the company for taking good care of my vehicles......so I have some slack .

Euro Golf OEM HID projectors are pretty small but I might want to swap them out for TT projectors in my 00 Accord.

What If I do this..........

November 6 2003, 8:00 PM

What if I take my G35 reflectors I'm using now and cut them down to size to fit inside the Saturn lamp??....whats shown within the yellow sqaures is what would probably fit.

How much lighting would I lose by cutting off the areas outside the yellow boxes??

DJ,if you cut the top sections you'll most likely ruin foreground lighting. I'd trim the lower halves only.

From what I can see,Pliepl trimmed off the the lower areas of his Lexus reflectors (light doesn't hit these sections because of the built-in shielding and D2R strips).

True, true.....I forgot about that, lower half doesn't get light....but what about that flare in the mirrors that dips at an angle into lower half of the lense?

Also, you say I will lose foreground lighting, how much are we talking? Like 1ft, 5 ft? Also this will be in an SUV so I have to take that into consideration.

Herman, or anybody.

Where can I find a headlamp parts dealer that carrys parts for later model cars? I'm having a hard time finding lamps for a Saturn Vue since it's so new.....I even tried all of the links in the FAQ.

My guess, you'd lose upward flare on your beam cutoff if you trim off that section. Removing/reducing this flare may be a good idea since it's a SUV you're doing.

Also, you say I will lose foreground lighting, how much are we talking? Like 1ft, 5 ft? Also this will be in an SUV so I have to take that into consideration.

That I couldn't tell you.

Got it

January 12 2004, 11:55 PM

I got my Saturn last week.......now I just need to find some headlamps for a good price. Anybody know of any parts yards that would have late model Saturn parts?

Cheapest I could find were brand new lamps for $169 each.

Yeah, I tried them, but none in Texas have any. I don't mind buying new sets without seeing them.....but with used, I would want to be able to go look at them to make sure all the mounting tabs are there.

It may be too new still for aftermarket companies, but you might want to try these places anyway.
