I purchased a 4th gen Hella OEM kit. It has Hella ballasts & ignitors with Philips bulbs. This thing DID NOT fit into the Halogen housing in the RX-8. Luckily, I had a dremel to make it fit! One last problem I have is that the round dust covers for the original halogens do not fit over the square ignitors which are attached to the HID bulbs. I want to cut the dust covers enough so that they'll fit over the ignitors and into the housing but what can I patch the rubber dust covers with? Any ideas?
Could you put in standard Philips/Hella LVQ-212 ballast with internal ignitor, and then you have the shallower standard red plug onto the D2S bulb? Then sell your old stuff on eBay? That way you could fit your original boots on?
Nevermind, I just now realized how hard that sounds like (in my previous post) just to get something so minor as a boot to fit. I'm sure you can find other types of boots to use in your application, or maybe you can mod you boot to somehow work. What about a boot for a rack (on a rack-n-pinion unit)? Or I'm sure there are many to chose from. Goto an auto parts store and see if you can find something that would be a perfect fit over your ignitor
