My car has the typical 'aero' halogen reflector headlights from the early 90s that are also typically awful. I'm a broke student, and just want to get something better than what I have, so I'm looking at viable OEM halogen projectors for a conversion project.
I've found that Hyundai Tiburon (2000+) and Acura Integras (1994+) projectors are pretty reasonable from local junkyards (especially the Integras because they're so plentiful).
Are either or both of these worth using in a conversion? I know that BMW or Audi OEM units are the best to use, but the ones I mentioned are less than half the price from a wrecker. I don't need world class lights, just better than the pitted, blotchy crap I have on the car now.
Does anyone have halogen beam pictures from either the Tiburon or the Integra? Or, if you've driven one or both of these cars, are they decent enough to be worth it?
From todays halogen lighting standards, I'd say they aren't worth it. First off all projector units, even halogen ones have become more efficient since the mid ninties and the fact that what you find on the yard has a) pitted glass b) dirty internals. All the guys that are retrofitting 1999+ Audi A4 to HID could be a source. But all in all, if u are on a budget, a new H9 Hella 90mm is around $55, which is on par or better than most halogen projectors out there.
