I just installed HID bulbs and ballasts into a halogen projector. Everything works wonderfully except that my shields have a slit in them to light up overhead street signs. It's kind of hard to describe but the slit is made above the cut off line so that there is a dark band where oncoming traffic would be. Above the dark band is a bright band from the slit that aims towards overhead signs and below is the normal projection of the light. The high aimed band was fine with halogens since it wasn't as bright but I'm afraid that with the new HID's in, it might have a bad glare to oncoming traffic. How would you guys suggest covering up the slit in the shield to block the upward aiming light?
My car is in for service for the weekend so I won't have it until Monday to get photos.
In the mean time...The car I converted is a Cadillac CTS. So if you have seen the halogen beam pattern on a CTS, that's what I'm describing. The projector is made by Sylvania/Valeo.
The slit is about an inch long and a quarter inch wide so it would be a lot to fill with JB Weld. Also, I'd like to make it reversible so when I sell the car, I can expose the slits again. Thanks for the idea though.
Matt,
make a cover for the slit out of unpainted metal foil. Then attach it with some drops of 600F silicone (See tools&Materials page). In the future, it can be removed with very little effort.

Beautiful tip! I'll tear apart my front end and try it when I get the car back Monday evening and post back to let you know how it went. I dunno why I didn't think of that...
Are you refering to the Permatex silicon glue for the adhesive?
