Side-signal actually. I dont have a whole lot of space to fit LEDs into, so surface mount LEDs are going to be the way I have to go. Just from eyeballing it, it appears that I will be able to fit at least four, if not six LEDs into each one. LiteOn sells two that might fit the requirements. The lamp of choice, mainly because of its higher viewing angle, has a 90 angle, and puts off 1250 mcd, the second has a 60 degree viewing angle and 2500 mcd.
Sixty degrees just doesnt seem like enough, but I could always tilt the bottom of the LEDs slightly to throw more then 30 degrees above centerline, obviously with some loss below, but the ground doesnt need to know which way I am going.
The lamp originally used a 168 bulb.
