"Giantlight Phillips" ?

Hi everyone.

I'm a member of the UK Supra Owners Club. A trader on our forum is offering a group buy on "Giantlight Phillips" HID kits to fit our standard lights.

He said:
"just got a deal from Phillips the manufacture themself in some HID Conversion kit 5000k using phillips geninue bulb and phillips smallest ballast. full 1 year warranty as well as all ISO etc approved."

Can this be right? From reading your FAQ I was under the impression that Philips don't make any aftermarket kits. Are Philips really involved with the Giantlight company?

Also, the trader has shown us this picture whch he says is from the Giantlight Phillips catalogue:

This seems odd to me because I thought Philips only made 4100K, 5000K and 6000K HID bulbs.

So, what do you think? Are these kits genuine or fake? A few members from our forum have signed up for this group buy and I'd hate them to be misled.

Thanks for any help.

Giantlight is located Taiwan ( http://www.giantlight.com.tw/ ) and they claim they are using Philips bulbs and ballast. An HID bulb consist of burner (glass portion with wires sticking out) and a D2S base. Philips actually do sell burner only to manufacturers.

The plastic base for various halogen bases is most likely moulded on in Taiwan. How well (accuracy/material choice) the burner is moulded... who knows??

Appearantly, there has been found illegal copies of the Philips ballast made in Taiwan or China. If Giantlight sell the original Philips one or an Asian copy (which is very cheap for them)... who knows?

Ther are 20 reasons not to use a HID kit, but rather use components as they were bought buy OEM. That is the way that 95% of all people here has taken.
