Authentic Philips Ballast?

I've just fitted a HID setup in my Toyota Supra, the light output is very disappointing. I've seen pics of the same car using a different kit and they are much brighter than mine.

I'm worried that the kit isn't made by Philips and is a copy.

Does any recognise the Ballast , I cannot find any pics on the Net.

Could you please turn it over and take another photo, so we can see the connectors. That label looks legit to me.

Here's a pic of the underneath, all the pics of Philips Ballasts I've seen on the net have had the cables coming out of the side and not the base.

Yes this IS a Philips Ballast(OEM's only), with no internal igniter. It was made mostly for D1S bulb use. It is either a prototype of their Gen-4 ballast or it was a limited production run early in the life of the design. I have seen the final new Gen 4 1st hand and this is definitely a preliminary version of it. The connectors are a givaway to this fact. There should normally be a silicon rubber seal going around the entire connector area. It was designed to mate and seal right up to a housing and be integral to the lamp housing.

Thanks very much.

I'm still trying to figure out why the performance of my HID's are poor. I've got Philips 4000k bulbs which have been moulded into a 9006 base and so don't have any Philips marking on them to confirm they are authentic.

Will these ballasts perform as good as the later spec ones, I cannot think of anything else that would be responsible for their poor performane compared to others that have used the Hella kit on the Supra.

When I fit the HID in one side and the Halogen in the other there is no obvious difference in brightness, the Hella kit on another car prouduced a very much brighter light.

Are you using a D1S bulb with the igniter integral to the bulb (box on the base of bulb)? or is there a seperate igniter on the cables between the ballast and the bulb? Does your system use a D2 socket for the bulb? Where did you get this setup?

Here's a pic of the bulb. I've no idea what the original base was, I've read recently that it's common practice for them to be re-moulded into different bases so they'll fit into halogen projectors . Mine have had a 9006 base re-moulded on.

The igniter is in the cable between the bulb and the ballast.

I live in the UK , they were originally supplied by a company called Giantlight who are based in Taiwan.
