Does the audi a6 halogen headlamp use the same projector as the HID one? I found a cheap deal on the halogen ones but if different projector would it be worth it still? And I just bought a pair of bosch ballasts. and I think it was hid planet that had philips d2s bulbs for $75 a pair... is that a good price? Sorry for being such a noob and thanks herman for writing such a great faq. Much has been learned!

I think Audi A6 Halogen projectors are made by Hella and are very similar to Hella low beam HID projectors with a 90mm lens that are found in a BMW X5 and E39. I do not know of anyone who has tried usinf D2S in those Halogen Hellas. May be you'll be first.

BTW, I am selling a pair of almost brand new Philips D2S Bulbs. I bought them but didn't like them. I like the Osrams better even though they are dimmer simply because it has a slight tint of pink to it whereas the Philips is much brighter and whiter with a slight tint of creamy/yellow. Asking price $70 shipped.

No.

Differences:
  • Bulb socket is different
  • reflector bowl has a slighly more V shape as opposed to U shape. This is hard to see for the naked eye.

    Possible differences:
  • reflectivity in refeclector bowl
  • degree of fresnel rings in curved lens
  • front shape of curved lens. This is hard to see for the naked eye.
  • distance between curved lens, shield and refelctor bowl. This is hard to see for the naked eye.
  • shield layout. This may be hard to see for the naked eye.

    Identicals:
  • overall physical measurements
  • Screw mounts
  • Colors of non optical areas.

There may be more that I can't think of right now....
