UCC3305N SEPIC converter, Ballast topology

Hi I'm trying to design/build a HID ballast for D2S 35W bulb using the Texas Instruments (unitrode) UCC3305N IC controller using a SEPIC converter as stated in its' application note U-161.

Has anyone have any experience with this? I've searched all over the internet and have found no one who has used this. It runs the bulb on DC as the SEPIC converter is a DC-DC booster.

Also, I'd like to know what kind of ballast topologies do other OEM use such as Philips (eg, LVQ-212 L300 ballast)

I'm trying to build this in order to investigate performance including EMI compatability for my undergraduate electrical engineering thesis.

Thanks for any help!
Howard
