| "mom Can we go for a trail ride together?" Chrissy asked me. We hadnt been on a trail ride in forever! "Sure. I am going to ride Ashes in the arena and then lets go!" I smiled, washing the breakfast dishes. I tacked Ashes up like she was an old pro. i walked her over to the arena and mounted, a little awkwardly since she sidestepped to try and get a better look at me. I sat in her back for a minute and then gathered the reins. I asked for a walk and held my breathe. She walked. i laughed and then did some figure eights anda walk, trot, and canter. She behaved nicely. I decided to walk her around the training track and get her used to the noises and sights. She loved being outside in nature. That was alwyas eveident when she was a little thing. She stretched her legs and seemed to bask in the sunlight. I decided to trot her around and she did so eagerly, taking in all the sceneray. She did an awkward little jump over a shadow but didnt take it to heart. She had a few more vices but I knew they could be fixed. She would have to race with a shadow roll, and probably blinkes. But who knows. when she gets running and sees the horses, everything could change. I wasnt a big believer in putting a lot of equipment on my horses...I liked to run them as natural as possible. i decided to give her a go at a canter, and it was marvelous. I trotted her over to the stables and Chrissy was tacking Cloud up. "hey hun, lets go for a run on the track, i want to see if she reacts to another horse out there. she might not because shes so young, but who knows." I smiled. We waited for her to mount up and walked to the track. We made them stand at a point, and i had chrissy gallop cloud out 3 furlongs and then I let Ashes go. we ere going to go a mile. Ashes saw Cloud and was determined to catch up. i laughed as the wind slapped my face. When Ashes caught up to Cloud she kept going. Chrissy edged Cloud on and we were nec kand neck. But Ashes refused to let Cloud go by. Finally we sprinted a length ahead and we wlowed the horses down. My face was flushed with excitement. She was a race horse. Both horses pranced back to the barn, Ashes wasnt blowing. I was so excited. The first positive thing to happen in awhile! |
