"Go take your shower kiddo." Jason told Chrissy as we hopped out of the truck. "We'll put Cloud away." I told her before she ran off. we had just gotten back from the last day of events. Chrissy and Cloud had gotten third in arena jumping yesterday, and took home a first for cross country today. All in all they placed fourth. We were all really excited. cloud was ready for bed though. We put her in her stall with some extra hay and she plopped right down. The other two horses whinnied grettings and got annoyed when they didn't get any special treats. "sorry babies, we have to go to Jason's house. Its important." I laughed as JAson and I walked hand in hand off to the apartment. Chrissy was just coming out of the shower when we got there. The phone rang as i was getting in the shower but Jason answered it. I listened for a few minutes but nothing, so Ifigured it wasnt important. I took a quick, but relaxing hot shower, and mentally prepared myself for this visit. I quickly dried my hair then went to get a drink. "Ash." Jason looked at me pale. "What?" i asked him sitting down on the couch next to him. "The phone...it was your mother." He said. My jaw dropped "and?" i asked expectantly "She talked to me and asked me questions. Is it true?" He asked me with wide eyes. "is what true?" isaid nervous. why? Why me. "Those things. With your dad. Did all that happen? And your step dad. and all the stuff with your mother." He asked. I kinda knew what he was talking about, but then again, who knows what mother told him. "jason. I didnt want to tell you anything untill wem oved, that way we wouldnt run into them with you knowing everything. And I still would rathr not talk about it, but who knows what she told you. so spill the conversatiob." I pleaded. "she said your dad was in jail for murdering someone, and that he...hurt you. And that he got out and went bck to your mother and she took him in and they got remarried. Then they split up and your mom got remarried to your step dad and they became druggies and they split and your mom and dad hooked up again. And you have a step brother that she told you about a little while ago, but he died and a fight broke out with you nd her at the funeral, and shes been "after" you ever since and... you wont talk to her." He let out in one bi breathe. Everyone else at Evergreen knew all of this. I was hoping JAson would never have to know. "short and sweet. What do you want me to say?" i asked JAson. JAson just stared at me. "I odnt know. I..I..Come on where're going to be late. we can tlak later." He said looking at his watch. His expressions were unreadable. "I love you," I whispred hugging him. He kissed me "I love you too."

Mom and Dad weren't home from work yet so finished dinner with the help of Mike. Around six mom came in and then Dad I yelled hey and then ran up the steps to change. I'd had a softball game and smelled like a horse. which was a good thing depending on the way you looked at it.
From down stairs i heard the doorbell ring i ran down and answered it. "Hey," I smiled at Jason. He gave me a testy look. "THey do know you're here" I said knowing what he was thinking. Chrissy followed me upstairs. "IF the bombs go off, I'd figure it'd be best to protect the future" I laughed she giggled and we played Herd your horses, until jason yelled at us to come downstairs. Karen was there already, so it was just me and Chrissy plus Cinderella that went. i lept into Jasons arms and we goofed all the way to the table. I was surprised that he was sitting next to Ashley, but I guessed i shouldn't have been. "Firstof all, Jason." Mom saidin almost a whisper. "iwould just like to apologizze to you Ashey, I was out of line. I uess i'm just trying to protect Jason. You already know how wonderful he is," mom said with a polite real smile. Ashley looked stunned. "Uh, yes, well I cna't blame you I probabl would do the same," She said. I gave jasona look that asked why this sudden change of heart? "mom I'd like to apologize for um being rude," I said pinkish in the face. mom jsut nodded. Jason picked at his steak fr a minute. "Well this isn't what I planned," Jason said. We ate in silence. "Have you found an apartment son?" Dad asked. "Yeah we have. It's three bedroom thank goodnss it allows pets, and two bathroms," Jason smiled. "does it have a pool?" I asked. Jason dropped his fork. And stared at me long and hard. "why would that matter?" "Well I mean you don't expect me to come visit and not go swimming?" Ashley stifled a laugh i could see her and Chrissy having silent fits. "But the beach is twnety minutes away," 'By car?" I asked he nodded. "That means that the pool is alot easier to get too,' I said. Jason laughed. I looked around mom and dad gave me dirty looks and then mom threw a nasty one at Jason. We both stopped. "God, Mom Jason came here out of the good ofhis heart," I said under my breath jaason wasted no time kicking my shins. I kicked back bt my legs didn't reach.
When they'd all left i sat in the living room hugging a pillow and watching TV. Why didn't mom and Dad just go with the flow? mom came and at beside me on the floor. "Here to overprotect me too?" I said harshly. "Sammy i know you wanted it all to be easy and jokes, but life isn't all fun," she said. "wow I hate to see how you guys react when I get engaged," I threw the pillow on the sofa and ran up stairs cinderella walked lsowly behind. I sighed nd waited she came up eventually tail wagging and licked m face. I smiled and went to my bedroom and called Jason who picke dup. "Hey big bro" I said. "It was like eating at Mammys and Pappy's," jason said grimly. Mammy's and Pappy's is our dad's parents and they are all about kids don't speak unless they're spoken to, people. Yeah very strcit. "I know," I said. "Mom is so dang over protective," Jason sighed "uh huh," I nodded. Jason laughed. 'Nice try at lightening things up though," I knew he was talking abot the pool which I'd been serious about. "uh yeah you too,' I said. "I have to go,' I said. before he'd gotten a chance to say bye I hung up.
