I patted Noel, I had noticed how she was a little depressed out there so I'd deicided it be best to just go ahead and bring her in. Mandy stood beside me, "Jason, it's just so sad" she murmered. I nodded, unsure really of why she was telling me.
Noel was happy to see Mandy and nipped her playfully mandy laughed and found a sugar cube in her pocket and gave it to Noel who lipped it up graciously.
"I'll only be a few minutes" Mandy promised and ran up the stairs. I sat on the couch staring into space. "You must be the boy she's always giggling about" someone smiled at me. I stood up, "yeah, My name is Jason Holden" I said. "it's nice to meet you, I'm Kandy" The woman smiled, her hair was as black as Mandy's with the same celery green eyes. "Holden?" Well, that's a surprise" she murmered. "excuse me?" i said sitting back down. "well Mandy got a heart transplant from a Holden" Kandy said, her eyes brimming with tears. "What?" I choked. "well I don't suppose she'd tell you that, would she?" The woman said with a sympathic smile. "Guess not" i said. "Well about 7 months ago Mandy had a heart failure...it wasn't such a big surprise, she inherited it from her father, but the doctors thought it'd be best if Mandy had a heart transplant. We waited and waited buut nobody had a match of blood type. When a girl who died of liver cancer died. Well she'd donated as much of her organs as possible and her blood type was o positive, same as Mandy's and that little girl saved my little girl" Kandy's eyes were filled with tears and I suddenly felt like i was going to suffocate. How come I didn't know about this? How come nobody, not even Sammy had said she was an organ donor? it was outrageous. "Well, that's amazing'" i said to Kandy.
"jason I'm ready!" Mandy came down with a smile. "Oh, um hi mom," mandy giggled. I walked over and took Mandy's hand. "It was nice meeting you" I nodded and we walked out the door. I didn't think it'd be right to say anything to Mandy about her, having my little sister's heart. "how bout a movie?" I said. "sounds good!" she said kissing my cheek. I sighed, darkness was something i needed.
when i had taken mandy home, i went out to the cemetary and went to Sammy's grave. I stared at the picture of her engaved into the stone. I stared, not really sure of what to do. "Damn Sammy" I finally said and left.
When i got home Mom and Dad and the twins were playing scrabble. "How come i didn't know Sammy was an organ donor?" i said. mom looked at me, so did dad. "Well- I don't know, we just assumed you knew because you two told eachother everything. "Well i just f---ing found out that Mandy had a heart transplant, guess who's heart she's got?" I roared. "jason, watch your mouth. who" my mom said routinely. "sammy's. I friken fell in love with a girl who has got my little sisters heart inside her body" i said. all four of them stared, "that's why she had that glimmer in her eye then" simon said. "You saw it too? like she wanted to cry when she was around you?" I gasped. he and Mike nodded. I felt as if the walls were closing in on me. I wanted to get away from this place. I was just beginning to get over her death a little bit at a time. Now i was angry and I didn't know where to turn.
i drove to evergreen and stared at Jojo, on the front of the stall there was a picture I'd put up, of my sister and Jojo when they first met. Sam was practically a baby and jojo seemed to be a lost cause. I stared at it, knowing that little girls fate ended up being death. I was so angry i didn't know what to do, I was sick. "Jason, what are you doing?" I muttered to myself. Absently i walked up the damn stairs to the apartments and knocked on Ashley's door. I needed someone to talk to, I needed to find out what she planned on doing with the twins anyway.
