I walked up and down the shed row that used to house my magnificent horses. Dust, Triple Crown Winner and Filly Extradornaire. She had a strong heart, and will. Nothing could stop her from racing to her heart's content, and winng. She was the sweetest little thing, who loved a good scratch behind the ears. Ashes, the little filly I found abandoned, and Dust adopted. She was going to be just like her step-mommy. She was a very precocious filly, and she shared that same heart. She loved to run, and I think she had more fun then Dust did. Dust was a little more serious. Her life was taken from her to early. Humby, that old bugger. My one eyed beauty. He was wit ha wonderful amish family, pulling a milk cart. He couldnt be happier or be with better people (well nto counting me of course!). Cloud, Chrissy's faithful stallion. He was a real gem. Rough around the edges sometimes, but boy could he jump. And he loved Chrissy so much. And then there wa Bond. He was allergic to the sun. Bond didnt seem to have much of a personality. He just did what was asked of him, and was pretty lazy. He didnt vie for attention or nicker for treats. And of course there was my Numby. My favorite, my problem child, the horse that changed my life. HE was amazing in every way, and such a brat! You know, it seems that most of the time when you ask a horse crazy person who their favorite person is, they always pick the brat! I contiuned my walk doen nostalgia row, remmbering each and every horse and their old stalls. I walked into my old tack room and looked at the old harnesses and bridles. "Ready to go baby?" Tom asked coming up behind me, and sliding his arms around my waist. I leaned into him and sighed in contentment. "Yea hun. I was just remembering all the horses I had. Making sure everything was alright before we got new ones." Tom, Chrissy and I were on our way to a horse auctin. I hated horse auctions becuase there are so many that mine as well be called holding pens for the slaughter. But its such a great thing to rescue horses from said auctions. Most fo the horses I had over the years were from an auction. "So what are we looking for?" Chrissy asked me when we finally arrived the auction. " A horse." I giggled. Tom just rolled his eyes. "we are looking for any horse that catched our eye in that way that only we could understand." We walked in and out of the shed rows and nothing really jumped out at us. Sure we loved every single horse and stopped to talk to and pet every single one, but we cannot buy them all! "Baby! Baby come here!' I followed Tom's voice and found him standing in front of two incredibly young babies. "Oh my gosh! They cant be more then 2 or three 3months! Where is the mom?" A man walked up to us. "Mother died giving birth, these are twins, I aint got tim for 'em. I havent done anything with em but feed em. They have no names and they are full bred lippizaners...and they are free." The man grunted after his speech and stood there expecting us to take them away. Well lucky for the little ones we were. "Ok we will take them!" Thy were not Lippizaner stallions. The man lied, but it didnt matter to me what they were. Tiwn babies that really needed us! "We will be back for them." I told the man, and signed an agreement. Ten minutes later we had bought three more horses. A standardbred, a thoroughbred, and a quarterhorse. We loaded them onto the trailer as well and we were on our way back to Evergreen. |
