"mack, do you know where my slippers are?" I looked up from the hospital bag that we were preparing together. Eight months pregnant but I felt like I had been pregnant for sixteen months, my stomach hung low between my legs and my feet hurt constantly. "Nope," he answered handing my glasses to me. "Oh, thank you. Are you sure you haven't seen them?" I said rubbing my round belly as a twin kicked furiously at its counterpart. "Where did you take them off?" He sniffed. I smiled and waddled into the bathroom. "MOmmy!" Madrian shrieked as I stared at her tiny figure sitting on Daniels training potty. "what are you doing?" I asked with a smile. "Teaching Danny how to poopy in the potty." She blinked and then pointed at her brother who stared, puzzled as to why his big sister was going potty with her clothes on. I smiled at them, "Hop off, and lets see if he figured it out." she jumped off. "Danny lets go tinkle," I smiled and lifted him up onto his potty. "Mommy?" Madrian began to speak. I could not pay any attention to her as I began to feel a warm sensation spread from my pants and down my legs. "Did you need to potty bad?" Madrian asked.
"MAAAACKKKK!" I shouted. He ran down the hall, "OH gosh!" He yelled. "Umm, what do we do?" I began to cry, put the kids in the car and lets goooooo," I cried.

"Come on Mindy, you can't give up," I pushed, and screamed, and pushed some more. Then one shrill cry matched mine. "It's a girl," Mack cried. I sighed and relaxed, "Okay Mindy the second one is on it's way," The doctor said. I stared, "YOu're kidding. I cannot do this!" "Yes, you can, trust me honey," Mack encouraged. I nodded. "Now push." the doctor ordered. I pushed long and hard this time and another cry came. "Congratualtions Mindy, identical twins and they're girls!" The doctor smiled and handed the babies over to some nurses.
The two red little faces stared up at Mack and I. "Oh my gosh," I whispered. "You are so beautfiul, even after fourteen hours of labour." I smiled, "they are beauitful." "Lina and Katie," Mack whispered. "The doctors say they'll be healthy, they're already very strong for be so early." Mack said. I smiled as I rocked them. "Of course, they are strong and healthy, they are our babies." I smiled and kissed the tops of their tiny heads. I put them back into their bassinets and smiled at the nurse as she covered them in thier blankets. "Come on, lets get you back to you room." "Okay," I smiled up at Mack. "I love you," patting his hand i sighed and settled back into the wheel chair.

The twins wouldn't be able to come home for a few weeks, so I opted to stay in a hotel closer to the hospital, and Mack took care of the other kids. Each day he brought Madrian, Danny, and Sean by when Sean got out of school. "Mommy is that my baby sisters?" Madrian would ask, I would smile and whisper yes. "Mommy, will they like me?" Madrian asked, thrilled at the idea of being a big sister and no long being the only girl. "Of course, they could not have asked for three better siblings, especially such a great big sister!"
When Scarlet came to visit she sat beside me and sighed. "there is never a greater feeling is there?" I asked. She smiled, "never. what are their names?" "the one on the left is Katherine Margaret, and on the right Lina Ann." "what beautiful names, I smiled, we let the kids pick them out." "Madrian never stops talking about them. She's got big plans for the babies," "Mmm." I nodded. "they get to go home a few days, The nursery isn't even ready yet." Scarlet laughed, "LIke you're going to get sleep anyway, five kids, a potty trainer and newborn twins." I smiled inspite of myself because Scarlet made an excellent point. "You're right, no sleep, who needs a nursery, who sleeps anyway?" We giggled as the nurses handed each of us our babies. |
