My daughter is getting married in June and plans to have growing herbs as table decorations. We have seen pots of lavender, rosemary or bay. Has anyone got any other suggestions?

Hello Sue,

Sounds lovely. I have done quite a few flowers for weddings but not table deorations apart from the table in church where the registers are signed but I have a few notions and will give it some thoughts and get back to you asap.

Myrtle if you can get it and lemon verbena would be good choices, if you're meaning stand alone pots of herbs which I think you are, lemon thyme would be good as well and lemon balm, calendula and marjoram would also be good to use on the table. If it was me though I'd go for alternate pots of lavender, lemon balm and lemon verbena, wonderful summer fragrances, all are tactile herbs as well, so guests can squeeze or brush the leaves to release wonderful aromas.

In the language of flowers Lavender is a symbol of devotion, Lemon Balm 'brings love' and Lemon Verbena attracts the opposite sex wink.gif Calendula symbolises joy, Marjoram symbolises joy and happiness whilst Myrtle is a classic symbol of love and the age old emblem of marriage. Ohh just had another thought, pots of jasmine would be nice and ivy interspersed with roses, all of them count as herbs and the jasmine and roses would add a wonderful fragrant touch. Hope that helps, do let us know what your daughter decides to use, such a wonderful idea to use herbs as wedding decorations.

Hello Sue,

Have been thinking about your decorations. Agree with Deb's suggestions and have a few of my own. Old fashioned sweet smelling pinks and clove carnations would be good and you can get some really nice variagated marjorams now and of course golden marjoram. I suppose it depends on the colour of the dresses. Incidentally I usually use some assorted herbs as foliage in the church arrangements (or registry office) as they give a lovely fresh smell to the building. Little bunches of lavender etc would be quite nice set on the table napkins for the guests. Just a few ideas for you to ponder.
