Identify a herb please?

Several years ago before I was married, I planted this climbing herb and it has now become successful and started flowering.

But I can't remember what it is.

Kind regards

Hi Peter

Could I suggest you get in touch with Duncan at Poyntzfield nursery. He should be able to advise you.

Peter, I'd love to be able to identify this for you, more from the aspect that its a herb I don't yet know than anything. I'll have a look in all my reference books and see. It would help though if you can tell us where you got the original plant, was it seeds or a plant, do the flowers have any fragrance, how tall does it grow etc? Any further clues would help track down the name.

Debs - Well, I think I bought it as a plant from Woolworths or somewhere like that. And I was under the clear impression that it was perfectly common and a herb (I had in my mind rosemary but obviously it's not). But I may have been completely wrong. I can't smell the flowers (but I've got hayfever and most of them are starting to fade anyway). It's climbing eagerly several feet and I'm sure will go a lot higher if it finds anything to climb on (it took so long because it didn't really have anything suitable to climb but it eventually found its way into, and has now colonised, an adjacent bush). Unfortunately it's unlikely to be staying where it is as we're hoping to build an extension there.

Hi Peter and Anthony,

I have to agree Anthony that there are certain similarities to Vincetoxicum in the photo although it's a genus I know almost nothing about. I do notice however that the plant in the photo has 6 petals where Vincetoxicum has a characteristic 5 as far as I'm aware.

It's certainly an interesting looking plant and definitely not something I would expect from Woolies.

I'd be intrigued to know where it originates from - very exotic looking.
