Volunteers Day takes place at Cecily Haughton School in Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire. This is a free event for volunteers past, present and future. Come along and meet some of council, learn more about volunteering at shows and events and have a free relaxing herb filled day as we offer the following herbal delights. Debs Cook will demonstrate making herb vinegars that can be used in culinary or medicinal recipes or for cleaning around the home. Please bring a clean glass jar such as a jam jar with a well fitting sealed lid if you'd like to take home some rosemary vinegar that you make yourself (ingredients provided).

Learn how to make herbal tinctures and herb infused honey for winter ailments with Jenny Jones who will also demonstrate how to make a lovely iron rich Herbal Tonic. Jan Greenland will give a talk on 'Herbs in the Herbaceous Border' and will also take those interested on a guided walk around her old herb garden. A light lunch and also tea/coffee and cake will be provided free of charge. Please let us know you are coming by booking with Jenny Jones or Flick Kingston, or use the online booking form here which can be found on the Volunteers News page of the Members Area.

Once you have booked, direction information and contact phone numbers will be sent to you.

Re: September 12th 2009 Volunteers Day

September 12 2009, 6:51 PM

I just got back from this event, it was a pleasure to meet new and enthusiastic volunteers and to chat with volunteers that I've worked with recently and to see a few ladies who have helped at events in the past, one of which has been a member of the Society for over 20 years. Some interesting discussions came up throughout the day and the conversations have given Jenny and I some ideas for future events, and for next years volunteers day, more details to follow soon.

It was a glorious day, the sun shone, the walk and talk around the garden given by Jan was a delight, enhanced by the Pimm's & lemonade topped with fresh borage and mint picked from the garden, which was lovingly prepared by Jan's husband Colin.. Jan & Colin prepared a delicious lunch which we all enjoyed out in the sunshine, the recipes will be put in the members area along with a report on the day and photos.

All in all a wonderful and relaxing day that was a pleasure to attend, hope to see more of you next year.

Debs
