Agrimony

Hello, I am a new member of the Herb Society and was wondering if I could find out any information about Agrimony. I have a bed measuring about four foot by six foot in my vegetable garden which is being dominated by this herb and it is seeding itself very freely. I have a purple sage, a variegated rue and salad burnett in this bed too. It is easy enough to pull up the seedlings in the shingle around the bed. I would like to know how I can use it and whether I should be more aggressive with my control of it. Any advice would be most welcome, thank you.

Hi Teresa

Can I suggest you take a look at Matthew Wood's writings on Agrimony. You can find themhttp://www.naturasophia.com/Agrimony.html andhttp://books.google.co.uk/books?id=MstkfhSd4FMC&pg=PA85&lpg=PA85&dq=Matthew+wood+agrimony&source=bl&ots=vqxirvg6oD&sig=gEeghDuoQdl451AHsRuWw-6oXaA&hl=en&ei=xmf1S8OTIeWTsQapkZSfBg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CB0Q6AEwAg#v=onepage&q&f=false Brigitte has also written a blog post about agrimony as part of the UK Herbarium blog party onhttp://www.myherbcorner.com/blog/?tag=agrimony

I don't use agrimony a great deal but I make tincture from my plants and the flowers are always popular for flower remedies during workshops.

I hope you find something useful.

Best wishes

Sarah

It seeds itself in my vegetable beds, too. I leave it unless it's really in the way, because it's so pretty. It's very bitter to taste, although useful medicinally.
